Howard "Pat" Denwell Kichline

May 7, 1928 — July 19, 2018

Howard Denwell Lamson Kichline (Pat) passed away July 19, 2018. Born in 1928 in Pennsylvania, his family moved to New Jersey when he was 10. In 1949, he left Lafayette College to work at his parents' newly purchased Atlanta Auction Gallery. There his family sold antiques to the trade, conducted biweekly auctions, and performed appraisals for estate tax and insurance purposes. He developed his interest in and experience with antiques into a lifelong occupation. Pat conducted hundreds of auctions for the Gallery, churches, museums, clubs, and other charitable events. As an associate member of the American Society of Appraisers and the International Society of Appraisers he completed an average of 150 to 200 appraisals per year from 1977 to 2017. His patrons included some of Atlanta's most well known and influential persons.

For years, Pat loved flying his private plane and sharing time with friends at the Charlie Brown Airport. He often spent weekends at his houseboat on Lake Lanier where he entertained three generations of family members and friends. He also enjoyed walking, reading, early edition Mustangs, ping pong, solving sudoku puzzles, and playing card games with his grandchildren. He delighted in doing kind things for others such as "detailing" their cars or baking them a cake, whether for their birthday or just because it would brighten their day. He continues to be dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

Preceded in death by his son, Marc Kichline (Stephanie), he is survived by his two children, Matthew Kichline (Nikki) and Carol Eilene Hess (Rob) from a previous marriage; he is also survived by his wife, Mabel Griffin Kichline, two step-children, James Crawford (Tracy) and Laurie Crawford Tolbert (Tom), nine grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Pat's memory to Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 5801 Hugh Howell Road, Stone Mountain, GA 30087; First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, 1328 Peachtree Street N.E., Atlanta, GA 30309; or the Park Springs Foundation, 500 Springhouse Circle, Stone Mountain, GA 30087.

Following a family graveside service at Arlington Cemetery, a service in celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 28, at 2:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, 1328 Peachtree Street, followed by a reception at the church.
