Obituary for John "Christopher" Harriss

John Christopher Harriss, 44 of Athens, GA died on Tuesday, March 20, 2018. Chris passed away unexpectedly due to complications related to his lifetime struggle with diabetes. He was born on Sunday, July 15, 1973 in Canton, MS. He lived in Jackson, MS, Atlanta, GA and settled in Athens, GA after attending college. He graduated from Tucker High School and the University of Georgia.

He was an Eagle Scout and an honorable man.

He married Mavis Sampson, the mother of his dearest love, his daughter Anica Joon.
Chris is also survived by his mother Margaret Harriss of Tucker, his father, Scott Harriss of Atlanta, his sister Liz, his brother Scott, two nieces and one nephew. Chris’ grandparents preceded him in death.

Chris was known for his wicked sense of humor. He was cheerful, kind and true. Chris was patient and always willing to lend a hand. He loved the outdoors. Chris read voraciously and was well spoken. He loved music, film and conquering the NYT crossword in pen. Chris joked and cursed fluently in Spanish, German and English. He was deeply devoted to his daughter Anica and spent every moment he could with her.

May God hold Chris in the palm of his hand. If you knew him, you were richer for it.

A celebration of Chris’ life will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at St. Bede’s Episcopal Church, 2601 Henderson Mill Road, Atlanta, GA 30345. Interment and a reception will immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers, Chris requested donations be made to the charity of your choice.
