Marianela M Murdoch

Marianela Mateo Murdoch, 88, of Decatur, Georgia, passed away on October 20, 2017. The memorial service will be held on Monday, October 23, 2017 from 2:00 until 4:00 pm at A.S.Turner and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur, Georgia.

Marianela was born in Azua, The Dominican Republic on December 12, 1928. She received a Doctorate in Pharmacology from the Universidad de Santo Domingo in 1950. She practiced pharmacy before meeting and marrying George William Murdoch, Sr. in San Juan, Puerto Rico on June 1, 1956. They were married for 46 years until his passing on March 6, 2002. Marianela was a devoted wife and caring mother. Although she lived most of her adult life in the Unites States of America, she made sure her children learned her native language through story, music and food - mostly food. She also enjoyed working as a volunteer in her spare time at the VA Medical Center in Decatur, Georgia.

Survivors include her children Mary Parrish of Phoenix, Arizona, George Murdoch of Decatur, Georgia, and Michael Murdoch of Gulf Breeze, Florida. She is also survived by three siblings Ana Josefina Mateo de Brugal, Ivelisse Mateo de Broberg, and her brother Clodoaldo Mateo Villanueva all of The Dominican Republic. She also leaves seven grandchildren, Anna Marie Parrish, Beth Ann Chesnet, Stephanie Scrudder, Morgan Parrish, Alexandra Murdoch, Danielle Murdoch and Tyler Murdoch, and five great grandchildren, Jase Zewalk-Parrish, Zeik Scrudder-Swyers, Emmet Cannon, Logan Cannon and Aubrie Chesnet. Along with 21 loved nieces and nephews, and other family and friends. Marianela is preceded in death by her mother and father, Clodomiro Mateo Fernandez and Maria Adelina Mateo Villanueva, and by two brothers Clodomiro Mateo Villanueva and Bayoan Mateo Villanueva.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Budd Terrace at The Foundation of Wesley Woods in memory of Marianela "Abuelita" Murdoch.
