Anita Joy Pohl

Anita Joy Pohl, 85, of Jonesboro, Georgia, passed away peacefully on 09/09/2026, surrounded by her loving family. 

Born on October 10, 1940, Anita grew up as an only child on a working farm in Kempner, Texas. She lived with her parents Flo Jo and Mabry Duncan.  As a young Texan, Anita was known to walk a pet lamb around Kempner with her best friend/cousin Charlotte. She attended Copperscove Elementary school, and She earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Howard Payne University.  Anita Duncan left Texas in her early 20's to travel the world - a few of her adventures included teaching in Japan, hiking/getting lost on Mt Fuji, and touring the Soviet Union by train.  Returning to Kempner, on a blind double date with her cousin Charlotte, she met David Pohl. David and Anita married soon after. Together, they shared their wanderlust - living in Belgium for years and traveling all over Europe with their toddler Scott Pohl in boot.  The 3 Pohl's made their way back to the Kansas, USA, where Anita added one more to her family with the birth of Eric Pohl. From there Anita's family of 4 eventually settled at Lake Spivey, Georgia for the last 40 years of her life.  

Anita Pohl was the loving mother of 2 sons, devoted wife to David Pohl, teacher to many 6th graders, and a friend to those who were lucky enough to steal the few moments she had left in her long and beautiful life.

She is survived by her two sons - Scott and Eric Pohl, their wives and many grandchildren. 

Service will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery/1080 Scott Hudgens Dr, Canton, GA on Oct 13 @ 2:30PM.
