Obituary for Dixie Grace Jordan

Dixie Grace Jordan was born on March 30, 1934 in Palmer Lake Colorado to Stanley and Ruby Howey. Her family moved to Colorado Springs when she was young, so she graduated from Colorado Springs High School. Not long after graduation Dixie met a young service man, Orin Jordan, at the skating rink, and they were married February 1, 1953. They moved to Memphis Tennessee, and Orin received his accounting degree from Memphis State University before working for Southern Bell in Nashville and Atlanta. Dixie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and tireless homemaker. She was an excellent cook, and her family was spoiled with delicious meals and all types of desserts, like her chocolate pound cake, chocolate meringue pie, and Italian Cream cake. At Christmas, there was an abundant amount of chocolate fudge, divinity, sugar cookies, and other delights. She always woke early in the morning to do her exercises, drink coffee, do her ironing, and fix breakfast for her husband and children. Her house was spotless, and she was known for helping neighbors with food and for sending cards for all occasions. Her Christmas list of cards and letters was long. Dixie and Orin were married for 65 years, and they had a very happy marriage. They were members of Peachcrest Baptist Church in Decatur for many years, and it was there they raised Stan and Jan to know the Lord. Jan had congenital heart defects and various health problems until her death in 1982, which was a very difficult time for our family. The last several years have also been a challenge because Dixie had a severe case of osteoporosis, and it caused her much pain. Orin took wonderful care of her through all of her pain and falls due to her Parkinson’s disease. Dixie was preceded in death by her parents Stanley and Ruby Howey, her sisters, Helen Gale, Jean O’Connell, and Mary Ashenden, and her daughter, Janet Lee Jordan. She is survived by her husband, Orin Jordan, her son Stan Jordan (Chris), three grandchildren, Lori Loomis (Jeff), Dixie White (Stacy), and John Jordan (Gao Foua), as well as seven great-grandchildren: Kade Loomis, Avenly Loomis, Jacob White, Joshua White, Mercy Jordan, Taylor Jordan, and Maila Jordan. The interment will be at the Parsons Cemetery in Parsons, Tennessee, Orin’s hometown, next to her beloved daughter Jan. There will be visitation for family and friends at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur, GA on Tuesday, August 21 from 6:00 -8:00 PM, and a service at the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, August 22 at 11 AM. A graveside service will be held in Parsons on Friday, August 24. Pastor Stan Jordan will officiate the services.
