Gerald Junior Butler

Jerry was born at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta Georgia on June 24, 1955. He was the oldest son and second oldest child to Gerald and Lonita Davis Butler. Jerry and his bothers spent their child hood learning the ways of the woods from their father. This instilled in Jerry a deep love of hunting and fishing that he carried into his adult life. As an adult Jerry and his dog, Rebel, would spend most days catching largemouth bass or crappie at one of the secret fishing holes that only Jerry knew how to find. Not only could Jerry catch fish better than just about anyone but he could garden better than anyone, too. Jerry loved to garden. He loved all things green, especially if it bloomed. He grew beautiful roses and hydrangeas and the biggest and most beautiful Christmas cactus ever. He loved children and was a big kid at heart. Even though he did not have any of his own he loved all of his nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews just like they were his own. He spent many summers teaching them all the ways of the woods, passing down the Butler traditions. He loved Christmas and decorating the house. Jerry enjoyed spending time with the family making everyone laugh. He also enjoyed being able to laugh at everyone, especially the kids, when he would jump out of a dark corner and scare them. Jerry always had a smile on his face and a kind word for anyone. He loved his friends and family very much.

Jerry went home to Heaven October 4, 2017. He is now in the company of his brother, Tony Butler; his momma, Alice Lonita Butler; his father, Zachary Gerald Butler; his beloved pup, Rebel; and many other family members that went on before him. He is now fishing right along with his dad catching all the fish Heaven has to offer.

Jerry is survived by his sister, Sherrell Warbington and her husband, Rick Coggins; brother, WM “Boone” Butler and his wife, Caryl; brother, Earl and his wife, Linh; niece, Austin Butler; nephew, Tom Butler and his wife, Bailey; niece, Nocona O’Kelley and her husband, Joshua; niece, Amanda “Mandy” Butler-Evans; nephew, Bill Warbington; nephew, Tim Warbington; great nephew, Lane Brock; great nephew, Tony Evans; great nieces, Ripley, Maddy, and Rhiannon Evans; and many more loving family and friends.

The family will receive friends, from 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017 at A.S. Turner and Son’s Funeral Home with a service to follow in the chapel and interment at Melwood Cemetery Stone Mountain, Georgia.
