Lawrence Ward Mccauley

November 25, 1938 — April 12, 2017

Lawrence Ward McCauley (Larry), 78, resident of Signal Mountain, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at 10:45 p.m. eastern time, Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia. His family was with him. Larry had been hospitalized since January due to an existing condition which caused increasing issues with breathing.
Born in 1938 to Ann Ward McCauley and Lawrence H. McCauley, Larry and his family lived in Tifton, Georgia until their move to Atlanta, Georgia in 1955. Larry attended Marist High School where he participated in many extracurricular activities and excelled in sports and academics. He later graduated from Georgia State University's College of Business. Also as a young man, Larry was a member of the Air Force National Guard, a position of service for which he was particularly proud. Larry lived and worked for a time in Raleigh, North Carolina before moving back to Atlanta to take a position with the Guardian Life Insurance Company. He eventually moved to the Nashville, Tennessee offices of Guardian Life, remaining in Nashville for many years and rising to the position of Regional Director. Larry was an outstanding administrator. Throughout the years at Guardian Life, Larry and his gifted staff won numerous awards for outstanding achievement in sales and service. He was also active in the National Life Underwriters Association and the National Association of Health Underwriters. In January, 2000, Larry retired from Guardian Life and moved from Nashville to Signal Mountain, Tennessee to be closer to family. He loved spending time with family and friends. Larry always enjoyed travel, golf and tennis. These activities continued into retirement. Larry is survived by his brothers James Francis McCauley, Harry Neil McCauley, his sister, Maryann McCauley Grube (husband William), nephews Kevin Patrick Grube (wife Krystal) and Christopher William Grube, cousins Sheila Ann Ward, Dianne Ward Bonham (husband John) and Jessie Ann Bonham. The family will receive friends at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home 2773 North Decatur Road, Decatur, Georgia 30033 on Monday, April 17 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at A. S. Turner and Sons. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memory Garden 3000 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA. Flowers are welcomed, and contributions can be made to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America at www.myasthenia.org or 355 Lexington Avenue, 15th Floor, New York, New York 10017. We want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. You will always be in our hearts. We also want to express our thanks and appreciation to the gifted medical staffs of Eastside Medical Center ICU, Snellville, Georgia; Landmark Hospital, Athens, Georgia; and Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia who cared for Larry through a very difficult time. By God's grace, we are forever grateful that Larry was a part of our lives providing us with strength, love and wisdom.
