Zosimo Octavio "Sammy" Alfaro

Zosimo (Sammy) Octavio Alfaro (76) lost his battle with cancer on May 30, 2018. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Christa Ahrens Alfaro. He is survived by his older brother, Hugo Alfaro of Atlanta.
Born in Antofagasta, Chile to Juan de Dios Alfaro and Laura Elvira Alfaro Tapia, Sammy was one of 14 children. In Chile, at a very young age, Sammy held multiple jobs to help his family. When he was 18 years old, he arrived in New York in search of a better life for him and his family. Joining his two older brothers, he lived in Valley Stream, New York for 6 years until coming to Atlanta, where he met and married his wife Christa in 1973. They set up roots in the Briar Vista neighborhood soon after.
Sammy worked as a server and captain at the Petite Auberge Restaurant for over 40 years where he met many of his dearest friends. Sammy was a lover of life, enjoying time with his friends and family, playing and even coaching soccer on a club team in the 70s and early 80s, gardening, listening to Spanish music and dancing. You could often find Sammy dancing in the kitchen with his wife. Sammy was a kind and generous person, a true gentleman who will be missed by many.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 3rd from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at A.S. Turner & Sons, Decatur, GA. The Funeral Mass will be on Monday, June 4th at 2:00 pm at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on Briarcliff Road. The processional from AS Turner to the church will start at 1:00 pm. There will be a private burial.
