Adelaide Claire Barnes

Adelaide Claire Barnes, of Atlanta, passed away April 16, 2008. Mrs. Barnes is preceded in death by her husband Corliss "Barney" Barnes, and her first husband Harold "Bud" Kreutz. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law Jacqueline and Danny Balenger of Atlanta. Mrs. Barnes' grandchildren are Corey Balenger and Adelaide Caddie) Balenger. Other family members include her cousin Robert Foerster and his children Christine Foerster, Bobby Foerster, Terry Foerster, Mary Craven, Carl Foerster and Connie Wiley, her sister-in-law Francis Kreutz and her children Gary Kreutz, Diane Heckstetter, Betty Kauling and Ray Kreutz. Mrs. Barnes was born October 26, 1916 in St. Louis, Missouri. She married her high school sweetheart, Harold Kreutz, Feb. 14, 1942. Harold was killed in WWII during the D-Day practice Operation Tiger April 28, 1944. On December 28, 1950 she married her loving husband Corliss "Barney" Barnes. They were married for 37 years before his death in 1987. She worked as an accountant for several companies until her late 70's. When she retired, she volunteered as treasurer on the staff of Birthright of Atlanta for many years. Mrs. Barnes loved her grandchildren. They were the focus of her life the last 16 years. A long-time member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, she also volunteered at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Home, regularly working with their sewing group and diligently selling raffle tickets for their annual fundraising luncheon. She will be remembered as someone who stood up for what she believed in and never compromised her principles. She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched. The funeral service for Mrs. Barnes will be Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:30 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 2855 Briarcliff Road, Atlanta, GA 30329. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Home, 760 Pollard Blvd., SW, Atlanta, GA 30315. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock at A. S.
