Arthur Crawford Davis

July 17, 1914 — August 30, 2008

Arthur Crawford “A. C.” Davis, 94 years old, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2008. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he moved to Memphis, TN, but resided most of his life in Atlanta. A graduate of Boys High School, he was class chess champion, a stimulating game he enjoyed most of his life, winning many trophies including the Georgia State Championship. He was employed by Southern Bell/AT&T for 42 years and was a life time member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. As a member of Druid Hills United Methodist Church, he served as treasurer of the Quillian class, was a volunteer security guard for the preschool, and helped put together The Story bulletin each week. For a number of years he volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Margaret Langford Davis, and his parents, Elizabeth McTear Davis and Arthur Job Davis, and brothers, Malcolm McTear Davis and Wilfrid Ridyard Davis, he is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Davis Carman (Tom) of Bethlehem, GA., and a son, Dr. Donald Crawford Davis (Jolene) of Stone Mountain, GA. There are 5 grandchildren: Karen Christman, Lynn Carman, Jennifer Richardson, Dr. Lisa G. Davis, and Keith C. Davis; 4 great grandchildren, Kendall and Tyler Burdette, Audrey and Andrew Christman. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 2nd at 11:00 A.M. at A. S. Turner & Sons with Rev. Rex Kaney officiating.   Burial will be at Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Druid Hills United Methodist Church, 1200 Ponce de Leon Ave., Atlanta, GA 30306. The family will receive friends 5-8 P.M. Monday at A.S. Turner & Sons.
