Athena Evangellia Anemogiannis

February 1, 1991 — July 20, 2021

A gentle soul and free spirit, Athena Anemogiannis, 30, died Tuesday, July 20, at her home in Atlanta.

Athena was born Feb. 1, 1991, in Atlanta. Her affinity for nature and experiential learning was very much nurtured at Academe of the Oaks, the high school from which she graduated in 2009.

Athena's gentle presence was soothing to others. Through her years of managing her health problems, she acquired much wisdom. She gave others peace, happiness, and support. No matter how poorly she felt, she was always available to others to help them talk through their own problems and sufferings. Athena was kind and compassionate, qualities she demonstrated in her empathetic care of others, especially her great-grandmother, who died in March 2020. Athena embraced and utilized the healing gifts of nature.

Athena had a natural eye for design and beauty. She loved shopping at junk stores and consignment stores and finding small treasures. She also had an extraordinary ability to bring order to chaos, a gift that was appreciated by those around her who benefitted from her organizational skills. No task was too big for her to tackle. In fact, she alone organized and categorized 75 years' of accumulated contents from her grandmothers' home to support the family's disposition of the property following the death of her great grandmother.

She was equally proud of her Greek and Southern heritage. Her favorite foods were fresh creamed corn, her great grandmother's green beans and fried chicken, tyropita, keftedakia, tzatziki, karpoozi, grilled lamb, and almond macaroons. During the summers of earlier years of her life she enjoyed snorkeling up and down various beaches in Greece where her family vacationed, looking for gifts from the sea-- a beautiful stone, a tiny shell or a lost piece of jewelry. She was a beautiful person in every regard and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her parents, Kathy and Manos Anemogiannis, of Atlanta; a brother, Alexander Anemogiannis, and Lucy Chen, of California; grandmother, Charlotte Nunnally, of Onancock, Va; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A funeral will be held Monday, July 26, at 11 a.m., at the Greek Cathedral, 2500 Clairmont Rd, Atlanta. The family will receive visitors on Sunday from 5-7 p.m. at the chapel of A.S. Turner funeral home, 2773 N Decatur Rd.
