Blanche Evelyn Boring

November 21, 1921 — April 25, 2013

Blanche Evelyn Edmundson Boring
1921-2013

Mrs. Evelyn, as she insisted she be called, stayed sweet, loving, alert, peaceful and grateful to the end.

Born November 21, 1921 to John Emory and Blanche Farmer Edmundson, Evelyn grew up in the Little Five Points and Inman Park neighborhoods of Atlanta, graduating from Girls High, and attending classes at Georgia state where she met the love of her life, Ned Boring.

Other loves of her life included playing bridge every possible chance, competing in tennis matches, square-dancing, and entertaining her many friends, as well as taking part in in Bible Study classes, participating in all Women of the Church activities, overseeing the kitchen, and serving wherever there was a need at Columbia Presbyterian Church. Together with Ned, she led the church youth group and planned the first church retreat to Hard Labor Creek in the late 50s and 60s. She and Ned were at every PTA meeting, ballet recital, game, concert, or recognition of any kind for their 3 daughters and later their grandchildren. They also loved to travel as they were able in retirement.

Diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2006, Evelyn was cared for by her husband of 63 years who pre-deceased her in 2010. Since that time she has been given loving care by the wonderful staff on the Memory Unit and in the skilled-nursing facility at Cobblestone Health Center at Park Springs Retirement Community.

Mrs. Evelyn is survived by her daughters Babs Douglas (George) of Tucker, GA, Beth Stubbs (Jody) of Statesboro, GA and Buff Van Epps (Jim) of Roswell, GA. Her family grew to include 16 grandchildren and their 14 spouses, 12 great-grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren and spouses and their 10 children, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Each was important to Evelyn and she kept in touch with them all as long as she was able.

Mrs. Evelyn left for her heavenly home to be reunited with Ned on April 25. She will be buried at Melwood Cemetery at 3:00PM on Saturday, April 27. There will be a celebration of life service at Columbia Drive Presbyterian Church, Decatur, GA beginning at 1:00PM on Sunday, April 28. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Columbia Drive Presbyterian Church, or to the Alzheimer's Association
