Colonel. Upon graduation from Auburn, he accepted a position with the Atlanta Board of Education in Georgia as a teacher and athletic coach at Roosevelt High School. During this time, he was a high school football official for 20 years, serving as an officer of the Georgia Football Officials Association for four years, and member of the Atlanta Touchdown Club, serving as president in 1976.
