Carolyn Ward Clements

Carolyn Clements of Avondale Estates, GA passed away Friday June 5, 2020 at the age of 95. Ms. Clements was born Carolyn Ward Burdette on March 6, 1925 in Atlanta, GA to James Miles Burdette and Addie May (Lawton) Burdette. Her family moved to Calhoun, GA when she was a child and she spent all of her young life there. After graduating from West Georgia College, she became an elementary school teacher in Calhoun. She married Odell Clements on June 3, 1945 and they moved to Avondale Estates shortly thereafter. Carolyn and Odell enjoyed many happy years together, running a moving and storage business in Atlanta until his passage in 1988.

Ms. Clements most enjoyed volunteering for at her beloved Avondale Patillo United Methodist Church. She made many friends over the years as she served on various committees and boards and attended regular fitness classes. She remained quite spry into her nineties, stubbornly refusing her walker at every opportunity.

Ms. Clements was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Odell Clements; son, Charles Clements, son-in-law, John Samford; grandsons, Charlie Samford and Corey Samford; grandson-in-law, Billy George; brothers, Jim Burdette and W.C. (Bill) Burdette, and sisters, Joann Burdette, Virginia Brogden, and Margaret Holland. She is survived by her daughter, Gail Samford and daughter-in-law, Janet Clements. Grandchildren Staci George; Charleston Clements; Casey Samford (Andrea) and Jeremy Samford (Courtney). Five great grandchildren: Ava Grace, Miles, Evelyn, Norah, and Harper.
