Charles E. "Charlie" Grim

Charles Edward Grim, 91, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2009. He was born on June 12, 1918 in Brooklyn, N. Y., and raised in Summit, N.J. He graduated from New York University. He was employed by U. S. Steel, and then worked as a sales trainee for the Monroe Calculating Machine Company, all in New York City. Charles was drafted into the army in April, 1941 as a private in the 112th Field Artillery, served five years and attained the rank of Major, Medical Service Corps. In 1945 after being discharged from the Army he was employed by the Veterans Administration. He was first assigned to their Central Office for eight years located in Washington D.C., V.A. Center, Martinsburg, West Virginia (l year); V.A. Center, Baltimore as Assistant Director (5 years); served as Area Chief Medical Administration, Atlanta, Georgia (7 state area, 5 years); then as an Associate Director at the V.A. Medical Center in Atlanta from 1964-1983. Charles was a Fellow in the American College of Hospital Administrators since 1965, also a member of the Northlake Rotary Club in Atlanta. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Tucker Georgia, where he served as usher. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Mary Alice Burns Grim; brother-in-law, Lloyd Sanford Burns, Jr. of Tucker, GA; nephews, Chip Burns of Tucker, GA, Richard Dehmel of San Francisco, CA; niece, Marian Boyer of Morristown, N.J., and many great nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons with Chaplain Robbye Jarrell officiating.  Interment, Floral Hills Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 A. M. Saturday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
