Charles Ray Pannell, 73, beloved husband, father and grandfather died on Friday, February 27, 2009 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William Wesley Pannell and Lavon Adrian Pannell; and a grandson, Christopher Alexander Pannell. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sylvia Colson Pannell; a son and daughter-in-law, Christopher Ray and Julie Cox Pannell; a beloved granddaughter, Jennifer Lauren Pannell; a daughter and son-in-law, Angela Diane and Andrew Thomas Martin; sisters, Nellie Frances Leiter and Jack, Mildred Pannell Christie, Dorothy Pannell Kirksey and Harmon, Jo Carole Pannell Lewis and Carl; brothers, Johnny Gordon Pannell and Anita, Winston Lee Pannell and Patricia, Roger Franklin Pannell and Delores, Mark Anthony Pannell and Rebecca; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Knight Pannell. He is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews. He served his country in the U. S. Navy and retired from Yellow Freight Systems. He was an active member of Embry Hills United Methodist Church. The Celebration of the Life of Charles Ray Pannell will be Sunday, March 1, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Embry Hills United Methodist Church, 3304 Henderson Mill Road, Atlanta, Georgia with The Reverend W. Mark Sargent and The Reverend Elaine Puckett officiating. Interment will follow at Melwood Cemetery, Stone Mountain, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at A. S. Turner & Sons.
