Charlotte Caldwell Jermyn

May 22, 1932 — March 4, 2014

Charlotte Jermyn passed quietly on Tuesday March 4, 2014 surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by her four children; sons, Charles Spencer, Robert Wylie and William Ward Driscoll, and daughter, Alice Driscoll Jermyn; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and a wide and diverse circle of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Jermyn, and her grandson, Charles Patrick Driscoll Her childhood was spent in the deep south living with Dr. Lewis Spencer's family, graduating from McMane High School in New Orleans in 1949.She raised her family in Dearborn, MI where she was also involved in the local GOP and her church, Greenfield Congregational UCC. During the 1970's, she found her real passion with her involvement in the Mensa organization. She served as Loc Sec for SEMM, (during which time they hosted their first Regional Gathering) and, for several years, as National Chair for the Mensa Education and Research Foundation (MERF). In the 1980's, she and her husband retired to the Isle of Palms, SC where she gleefully immersed herself into the rich and vibrant arts culture of Charleston by working many hours as a volunteer usher, especially during Spoleto. She also took great joy in her membership in Circular Congregational UCC, and Mensa, traveling all over the country for RG's. She chose to end her days living close to her daughter in Decatur, GA, enjoying her new friends at Clairmont Crest and at Central Congregational UCC. Thanks in large part to two special angels, Sunday and Minnie, she was kept comfortable even while bedridden. Throughout her life, she was an avid knitter, photographer, writer and crafter. A memorial service will be held on April 12, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Central Congregational UCC, 2676 Clairmont Road, NE, Atlanta, GA 30329. In lieu of flowers her family invites donations in her honor to MERF:1229 Corporate Drive West, Arlington, Texas 76006: 817-607-6577, or go to: www.mensafoundation.org and there is a donation button there.
