Chase Vanvalkenburg, Jr.

Chase Van Valkenburg Jr., of Decatur, Ga., passed away Monday May 13, 2019 at the age of 85. Chase was the first of two sons to the late Chase Sr. and Lucille Pelot Van Valkenburg. Chase Jr. was also preceded in death by his brother Bill, and his son Chase III. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Catherine, his daughter, Eve, her two children, Andy (Molly) and Mollie, and Chase III’s three children, Frank, Randy and Lucy.
Chase graduated from Georgia State University with a degree in Business Administration. He and Catherine married and raised their children in Avondale Estates where they lived for 25 years. He had a lifelong career at Equifax where he retired at age 62. They then moved to Savannah where they spent 16 wonderful years before returning to Decatur. Chase and his family attended Decatur United Methodist Church for many years where they met many longtime friends.
Chase loved music and played the piano, the guitar and the ukulele. He learned to fly, played golf, tennis, hiked, camped and enjoyed boating. He was a member of the Avondale Yacht Club and the Smoky Mountain Hiking and Drinking Club! He loved being with his grandkids and having them tell him what to do! Chase was an impeccable dresser with a kind soul who developed many wonderful friendships throughout his years.
The funeral service will be held at A.S. Turner & Sons in Decatur, Georgia on Sunday May 19 at 5:00. Visitation will start at 4:00 prior to the service.
A donation to The Alzheimer’s Association in lieu of flowers is appreciated.
