Claire G. Manners

Mrs. Claire G. Manners passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, July 28, 2005. She now joins her husband, George E. Manners, Sr., in that peace. Claire was born on December 4, 1914 in Columbus, Georgia and had a lifetime of achievements and contributions. A graduate of Atlanta Girls High School and a business graduate of Georgia State University, she worked for Dun and Bradstreet as a report writer; she was a secretary at Whitefoord Elementary School in Atlanta for several years; she spent over five years as Executive Secretary for the Women's Chamber of Commerce in Atlanta; she served as Admissions Director at Lovett School and as a professional interviewer at Grady Hospital; and she served on the Board of Directors for the DeKalb County Library System. For many summers, one found Claire teaching archery at Fritz Orr Camp (now Westminster Camp). She was named Citizen of the Week in DeKalb County, and she and George, Sr. were named Citizens of the Year in Decatur. Claire would want to be acknowledged as a member of the DAR and a long-time member of the PATY Class at Decatur First United Methodist Church. She is survived by her son, George E. Manners, Jr.; and daughter, Susan Ladd; by her grandchildren, Gentry Kidd, Erica Zendel, G. Blake Manners, Eden King, Meredith Van Voorst, and Alex Zendel; and by her great grandchildren, Morgan Kidd, Taylor Kidd and Sarah King; and by her beloved nephew, Michael Jones-Kelley. The family will receive friends of Claire on Monday, August 1 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at A. S. Turner & Sons. Funeral Services will be held at 2 P. M. on Tuesday, August 2 at the Decatur First United Methodist Church. As an alternate to flowers, contributions may be made to the Music Ministry, c/o Decatur First United Methodist Church, 300 E.
