Claude T. Grizzard, Jr.

Mr. Claude T. Grizzard, Jr. was born in Winchester, TN on August 12, 1906 and died in Atlanta on May 17, 2005.  He attended the University of Tennessee and the Georgia Institute of Technology. He was partner, past president and chairman of Grizzard Advertising and Grizzard & Haas. Many considered him the grandfather of direct mail and he was one of Atlanta?s leading fund raising consultants. The Atlanta chapter of the National Society of Fundraising Executives awarded him the prestigious Life Time Achievement Award. He also received the Atlanta Advertising Club?s Silver Medal Award.  He was President of The Mail Advertising Service Association International 1938-1939 and a founder of the Associated Mail Advertising Agencies. The Chamber of Commerce?s Atlanta Magazine selected him as one of the 200 persons who had contributed the most to the growth and development of Atlanta. He was a Lifetime Member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board, a two-term director of the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, co-chairman of Atlanta Plan of Improvement Campaign, charter member and ace of the Breakfast Club.  Mr. Grizzard was a member of Haygood Memorial United Methodist Church since 1926 serving in various capacities and living out his faith before his family, friends and business associates.  Survivors include children, Mr. & Mrs. James P. Leak, III, Mr. & Mrs. Ralph O. Walton, Jr., Mr. & Mrs. Claude H. Grizzard, Sr.; sister, Mrs. Frances Dover; 7 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held at Haygood Memorial United Methodist Church at 2:oo p.m. Friday, May 20th.  Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send contributions to Haygood Memorial United Methodist Church or a charity of their choice. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 19th at A. S. Turner & Sons.
