Cleo K. Smith

Cleo K Smith, age 88, passed away on Thursday evening, August 4, 2016.  Mrs. Smith was born April 10, 1928 in Gwinnett County Georgia , and her family moved to the New Deal Community in Scottdale when she was 13.  She often shared fond memories of long walks to school each day and a dream of one day having her own home at the 'top of the hill'.  That dream was realized when she married Hurston Smith and they bought a house at the top of that very same hill where they raised a family and Mrs. Smith lived the rest of her life.  She was an avid gardener and nurtured many beautiful plants throughout her lifetime. Mrs. Smith was 16 when she became a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Scottdale, Georgia.  She attended faithfully over the last 72 years, holding the longest standing membership at that church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Hurston Smith; and her daughter, Barbara Marie Buice.  She is survived by two sons, James Milton Smith and wife Sherlene, Donald Eugene Smith and wife Angie, and son-in-law Kenneth Buice.  She also leaves to cherish her memory eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.  Her legacy of love will forever live through her family and many friends.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 8, 2016 at 1:00pm at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur, Georgia.  Burial will follow at Melwood Cemetery   The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 7, 2016 from 2:00 - 4:00pm and from 6:00 to 8:00pm.
