Davis Michael Hornibrook

Davis Michael Hornibrook ("Mike") passed peacefully in his home in Panama City July 7, 2023. Everyone who knew Mike knew him for his smile, laughter, and his love of life, family and friends. Born December 9, 1945, Mike grew up in Decatur, Georgia and lived in the metro Atlanta area until he retired to Panama City Beach with his brother, Scott Hornibrook in 2002. He graduated from Decatur High School and then honorably served in the United States Army where he defended his country in the Vietnam War. Mike was extremely proud of being a United States Military Veteran and his deep love of country profoundly impacted his life.

Mike worked at E.L. Hornibrook Company, founded in Avondale Estates in 1929, with his grandfather, Ned, grandmother Isabel, great aunt, Olive Cottle, father Dave, brother Scott, and son Brad, at different times throughout his career, which spanned 4 decades. Mike was an incredible athlete in his younger years. Mike won the junior championship golf title at East Lake Golf Club in 1960 and then earned runner up in in the same tournament a year later in 1961. Mike enjoyed coaching his son Brad in baseball with his brother Scott, and thoroughly enjoyed watching his granddaughter Gwynnie make her way to the collegiate level as an athlete. His love for his brothers, Johnny (deceased), Chris and Scott was paramount throughout his entire life. His love for them knew no bounds.

Mike is survived by his son, Brad, granddaughter, Gwynnie, brothers Chris Hornibrook and Scott Hornibrook, niece Melanie Flury, and nephews Brandon Hornibrook, Zachary Hornibrook, Andrew Hornibrook, and Christopher Hornibrook.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Decatur Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Pensacola VA Hospital or your local VA.
