Doris V. Hammond

Doris V. Hammond, 90, of Cordova, Tennessee passed away peacefully on April 2, 2011. Long time resident of Atlanta, GA and one of the oldest members of East Lake Baptist Church (Stone Mountain Baptist Church, Heritage Baptist Church) While living in Cordova, Tennessee, she was very active at Bellevue Baptist Church and was the Prayer Chairman of her Sunday School Class, The Lois Class.
This dear woman of God was the prayer warrior of our family and helped form our ideal of what is pure and spotless. Her lovely character, her unselfish regard for others, her meek and patient endurance of age and disease, with the calm assurance of Christian hope, all combine to soothe our deep sorrow with the comfort of a holy confidence that she passed from this world of trouble and suffering into the arms of our Lord Jesus.
She is predeceased by her husband, Harold Myles Hammond, sisters Marion Merriman, Evelyn Crowley and brother James K.(Karl)Williams. She is survived by her two daughters, Marsha Hammond and Janet Gallimore; three grandchildren, Savanna Kalember Rakestraw (Chris), Samantha McKenzie Gallimore and Leslie Myles Hammond Jones; three great grandchildren; Emily Brooke Rakestraw, Madison Gail Rakestraw and Myles Avery Gallimore.
Services are scheduled for Saturday, April 9th at 1 pm at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home, 2773 North Decatur Rd, Decatur, GA 30030. Family will receive friends at A.S.Turner and Sons, Saturday, April 9th from 10:45AM – 12:45PM. Graveside services for immediate family to follow at Resthaven Garden of Memory, 2284 Candler Rd, Decatur, GA 30032. Both services officiated by Rev.R.C.King. In lieu of flowers, we request contributions be made in her memory to Heritage Baptist Church, PO Box 869, Grayson, GA 30017.
