Dorothy Roundtree Budd

March 15, 1919 — January 29, 2012

Dorothy Rountree Budd, age 92, died peacefully on a glorious Sunday morning, January 29, 2012, at Budd Terrace in Wesley Woods. Mrs. Budd was a magnificent musician who taught piano and organ for eighty years to over three generations. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother as well as a sterling Christian example. Dorothy faced life challenges with grace, optimism and courage.
Mrs. Budd was the daughter of Dr. Otis Rountree and Clyde Holmes Rountree of Vidalia, GA. She was a graduate of the Wesleyan Conservatory and received the post valedictory scholarship. While teaching piano at Georgia State College for Women, she met and married Rev. Budd. Together, they and their four children served numerous congregations in the North Georgia Methodist Conference. In a note to her daughter, Lillian, before her death, Mrs. Budd described her marriage by saying, "We are very happy."
Mrs. Budd was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Dr. Candler Warren Budd, a member of the North Georgia United Methodist Conferences for over 60 years. She was also predeceased by her grandson, Andrew Bryant Budd. Survivors are her son, Warren C. Budd, Jr. and his wife, Courtenay of Newnan, GA, daughter, Lillian Budd Darden & her husband, Buddy of Marietta, GA, son, David Otis Budd and his wife, Adonica of Clarkesville, GA and daughter, Dorothy Budd Murray and her husband, Niles of Griffin, GA. She is survived by twelve grandchildren, Courtenay Budd Caramico, Dorothy Budd Rich, W. Candler Budd III, Wesley Budd, Christine Darden Brennan, Dr. George W. Darden, IV, Linda S. Budd, Phoebe Clyde Budd, Dr. Otis Budd, George N. Murray, IV, and Olivia A. Murray and eight great grandchildren.
A memorial service of celebration will be held on Tuesday, January 31 at 11:00 AM at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 1722 Oak Grove Road, Decatur, GA 30033 with Dr. Glenn Ethridge officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Oak Grove United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends after the service in the church parlor. A. S.
