Douglas B. Torbush, DDS, 63, of Stone Mountain passed away December 17, 2015 following a heart attack while playing tennis. Doug was a science teacher at Avondale High School prior to graduating from Emory University Dental School, where he was the class president all four years. For the past twenty five years, he has had a dental practice in Conyers, Georgia. Doug was involved in many organizations, including local, state and national dental groups. He was the immediate Past President of the Georgia Dental Association (GDA), Past President of the Northern District Dental Society, member of the Eames Study Club, Pierre Fauchard Academy, Hinman Dental Society, International College of Dentists, American College of Dentists, and Georgia Academy of Dental Practice. In addition to the multiple dental organizations, Doug was a member of the Emory Alumni Board, Decatur Rotary, Leadership DeKalb, Smoke Rise Baptist Church, as well as captain of multiple tennis teams at Smoke Rise Country Club. Doug was not just a member of all of these organizations, but was a leader, chairing many committees and as a result receiving numerous awards. Doug's theme during his GDA Presidency, Invest the Time to Make a Difference, also applied throughout his life. Doug was a true gentleman who always had a welcoming smile and ready hug. He was selfless, thoughtful, level-headed and able to mediate problems wherever needed. Doug was able to continue his life of service by giving the gift of life to others through organ donation. Doug is survived by his wife Debbie Nickels Torbush, son Ryan Torbush of Macon, daughter Katherine Torbush of Atlanta, five sisters Diane Torbush, Joann Shields, Carol Tannehill, Debbie Whitmer, and Pat Siwick and their families, as well as the families of his previously deceased brothers Tony and Andy.
