Douglas White Stewart

Stewart White Douglas, 62, of Avondale Estates, Georgia passed away on February 11, 2017, at home.
Doug was born at Ft. Belvoir in Alexandria, Virginia to Eloise White Stewart and O. B. Stewart, Jr. on February 13, 1954. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1972 and from Presbyterian College in 1976. He worked as a registered seed technologist at Hulsey Seed Lab in Avondale Estates, Georgia for many years and in recent years has enjoyed the adventure of being a courier driver transporting critical medical supplies and various time sensitive cargo for VeLOX Express.

Doug was an avid sports fan, especially pulling for GA Tech, the Atlanta Braves, and the Atlanta Falcons. He was a lifelong fan of NHRA drag racing and was knowledgeable in all sports. He was known for his trivia prowess in any subject. Music of all kinds was another passion Doug enjoyed. He was an avid collector of just about everything and always had an eye out for the piece that would complete his collection. Doug was fortunate to have many close friends and will be remembered as a man of character and integrity. Many of his friends refer to him as their best friend or as their brother. He was dependable and you could always count on him to keep his word. He will be greatly missed by his brother, sister, and entire family as well as by his many friends he has made through the years.

Doug is survived by his brother, Brian D. Stewart of Atlanta, GA and wife, Susan Evans Stewart; nephew, Glenn Stewart and wife, Spencer Martin Stewart, great niece, Sydney Evans Stewart; sister, Laura Stewart Noell of Lawrenceville, GA and husband, Bill Noell; nieces, Kristin Noell, Brooke Noell, and husband, Josh Mitchell, nephew, Ryan Noell; cousins, Nancy White Morris and husband, Chuck Morris; Mary White Crosswy and husband, Milton Crosswy; and their extended families. He is preceded in death by his mother, Eloise White Stewart; father, O. B. Stewart, Jr.; grandmother, Eloise Fullbright White, grandfather, Theron Long White, Sr.; grandmother, Christine Stewart, grandfather, O. B. Stewart, Sr.; uncle, Theron (Tebie) Long White, Jr. and aunt, Betty Carroll White.

In lieu of flowers, take care of yourself and each other. Doug would like that.


A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 26, 2017, at A.S. Turner, & Sons with Reverend Dee Shelnutt (retired) officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, at 1:00 pm.
