Dr. Eb Daniels

June 5, 1924 — October 11, 2017

Dr. Eb Daniels III passed away quietly on October 11, 2017. A devoted father and doting grandfather, Eb’s greatest loves were his family, the outdoors, and Georgia Tech football. The only son of Eb Daniels II & Ola Ray Redding Daniels, his death was preceded by that of his parents and his first wife, Dr. Marion Leathers Kuntz. After a childhood spent in both Alabama and Florida, Eb lived most of his life in the Atlanta area, where he ran a successful dental office and participated in numerous real estate deals. A natural raconteur and people-person, his affable ways and easy charm won him friends across the globe.

Eb attended Decatur High School, then Decatur Boys High. While living in Decatur, he met his first wife, Dr. Marion Leathers Kuntz. He proudly did his duty during World War II, serving on the hospital ship the USS Sanctuary, and again during the Korean Conflict. In 1946 Eb’s first son, Charles Eb Daniels, was born. Having attended Emory College, Eb graduated from the Emory Dental School in 1950. The following year, his son Otto Alan Daniels was born.

His boys were Eb’s life, and while he kept busy with work he always made time for his family. Whether long family trips or weekends spent hunting, leisure moments with the people he loved were the thing for which Eb was always working. He also took special care of his many older relations, always happy to offer his love and assistance.

Eb made friends wherever he went and was always ready with a smile and joke. He was also an avid sportsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and just spending time outdoors. Eb was also heavily involved in numerous fraternal organizations, including the Lions Club and the Masons, of which he was a fifty year member.

After his first marriage ended in divorce Eb married Betty Shannon, inaugurating a new phase in his life as he prepared for retirement and to enjoy the fruits of his labor at his countryside home in Rockdale County. Together, the pair traveled all across the world from Africa to Istanbul. They also dedicated themselves to the full-time task of loving and caring for their many grandchildren.

Following his second divorce, Eb remained in Rockdale County and maintained an extremely active “retirement,” always making deals and lending a helping hand to anyone who needed it. With the help of a small but loyal band of friends & family, Eb lived independently his entire life.

Eb believed that this life could be best summed up by something his mother told him: “Eb, you’ll take a chance.”

Eb Daniels is survived by his sons Charles and Alan Daniels, his daughters-in-law Linda and Jeanne, and his six grandchildren: Alex, Eb Joseph, Sarah Jane, Becca, Googie, and Asa.

A grave-side service will be held for Eb on Saturday, October 14th at 11:00 am at Greenwood Cemetery.
