Dr. John B. Mills Iii

Dr. John B. Mills, III, of Atlanta, died Saturday, July 12, 2008. He was 69. Dr. Mills taught biochemistry at Emory School of Medicine for 30 years, where his research focused on human growth hormone. He was born in Griffin, Ga., graduated from Georgia Tech, earned a Ph.D, from Emory, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Kings College, Cambridge, England, in 1966. He was a consummate Southern gentleman, a raconteur and a humorist, who especially enjoyed hunting, travel, history, literature and music. Dr. Mills was preceded in death by his mother Josephine Hemphill Mills Pollard and father John B. Mills, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Cantey; son, John IV, daughter-in-law Jill, and twin granddaughters Brooke and Sydney, of Decatur; and daughter Susan Jewell, son-in-law John Jewell, and granddaughter Caroline, of Chattanooga, Tenn.
