E. W. Wes Green

Mr. E. W. “Wes” Green, 88, of Atlanta died Sunday, December 26, 2010 peacefully at his home. A native of Littleton, CO, he was he was born August 8, 1922 to George and Caroline Green. He was raised in California. He was a veteran of World War II serving in U. S. Army in the Signal Corps. After his tour in Germany, he married his beloved wife Mary Nell, whom he met while he was stationed in Athens, GA. After his marriage, he attended Georgia Tech earning his Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering in l950, Bachelor of Industrial Engineering in l954, and his Master’s in Science of Industrial Engineering in l955. He began work at Sears and Roebuck, starting in the Catalog Ordering Department and retiring with the title of Assistant Southern Territory Operating Manager in l980. He then worked at United Family Insurance until his retirement as Assistant Vice President in l989.
During retirement he became an avid gardener and began to enjoy the wonderful world of cooking. He had a keen sense of humor and loved his family. His beloved wife, Mary Nell preceded him in death after 62 years of wedded bliss.
Mr. Green is survived by his brother Bill Green of Vicksburg, Michigan. He is also survived by his caretaker and beloved niece, Beverly Tarleton, as well as several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Valley Brook Baptist Church in Atlanta with Rev Mike Roper officiating.
His body will lie in state from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Church. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at A.S. Turner & Sons.
