Earl Trygve Tveit

May 20, 1938 — June 14, 2018

Life is unjust and this is what makes it so beautiful. Every day is a gift. Be brave and take hold of it.
- Garrison Keillor

Earl Tveit, truly one of the greats—man of integrity, honor and generosity, faithful husband, father to many and most beloved grandfather—died on June 14, 2018.

Earl was born May 20, 1938 in Northwood, North Dakota. The son of a Norwegian immigrant who grew up in rural North Dakota, he was educated in a one room schoolhouse and then graduated from North Dakota State University in 1962. The source of Earl’s greatest joy was his family—wife, Carol; daughters Tanya and Mary; sons-in-law Michael Condon and Brian Adams; and cherished grandchildren, Ethan (16), Parker (14), Henry (11), Katie (8) and George (6).
His family expanded as his career grew. Earl’s career began as an Assistant County Agent in Jamestown, North Dakota. After a short stint in the government sector, Earl then went to work at Allied Chemical. In 1965, Earl met his “bubbles,” Carol Lohse, who he then proposed to on the second date. Their marriage of 50 years took them from the Midwest to the South in 1973 where they lived for most of their married life.
The transition from the Midwest to the South was made easier by deep and abiding friendships, the faith family of North Decatur Presbyterian Church and a fulfilling career as partner and leader at McCullough & Associates.
Although his life was in Atlanta, Earl’s family remained in North Dakota and his extended family in Minnesota. He returned to his home state often to visit with his brothers, Harold and Arnold (deceased), sister, Sonia Midgarden, and nieces and nephews, keeping his roots intact and his heart enlivened.
His communities and networks brought him joy abundant and many accolades. Whether it was his role in the National Association of Chemical Distributors, his membership in the Decatur Rotary, or his time on the session of North Decatur Presbyterian Church, Earl was happiest when he could serve others. Earl Tveit loved and was loved fiercely. And not a day will go by without his loved ones hearing his signature salutation -- keep in touch and take care!
Earl is survived by his wife Carol, daughters Tanya and Mary, brother Harold and sister Sonia Midgarden. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to North Decatur Presbyterian Church. Address below.
