Elizabeth Jane Hunter

Elizabeth Jane Hunter, 82, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on June 11, 2016. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2016, 2-3:30pm at Unity Atlanta Church, 3597 Parkway Lane, Peachtree Corners, Georgia. A reception will follow 3:30-5pm at the same location.
Born on December 9, 1933, in Jacksonville, Florida, Elizabeth is survived by nieces, Katherine Gilbert and Lila Rodgers, nephew, George Rhyne, and their spouses and children, all of Jacksonville, Florida.
Elizabeth devoted her life to the study of and advancement of performing arts, philosophy, culture, and holistic medicine. As a teacher, minister, naturopath, healer, advocate, patriot, and leader, Elizabeth touched countless lives in Atlanta and across the U.S. While she had no children of her own, her many loving students and friends became her chosen children and will be forever grateful for her teachings and selfless devotion.
During her early years in Atlanta, Elizabeth studied classical ballet, music and piano and performed with the Atlanta Ballet and Theatre Under the Stars. The also taught music and ballet to children at dance schools, elementary schools and an orphanage. Her advanced studies took her to New York City where she studied theatre arts and journalism at Columbia University, Italian Bel Canto Opera with Gustava Weiss at Carnegie Hall, ballet theatre and ballet arts at Carnegie Hall, and communication and counseling at the School for Dianetics and Scientology. Also in New York City, she performed in numerous musicals, programs and plays at the Columbia University International House and off-Broadway. Elizabeth also wrote plays and movie scripts for various theatres and organizations, earning her scholarships and accolades.
Returning to Atlanta, Elizabeth established the Atlanta Bel Canto School of Music which later became The Atlanta Philosophic and Cultural Research Institute. For over twenty years, she taught classical music and piano, Italian Bel Canto Opera, performing arts, foreign languages, communication skills, study skills, vibrational physics, naturopathy and more. Elizabeth also created and led the Jedi Club, a self- improvement organization for ten years. She also helped establish and was an officer of the Science Speakers Club, later called the UFO Club, for ten years. Elizabeth continued writing plays and movie scripts and directed numerous musical and dramatic programs.
