Elizabeth Marie Dixon

December 16, 1927 — May 15, 2018

Elizabeth Dixon was born in 1927 in Dallas, Texas and passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2018. She had a remarkable career in the International Lions Club organization beginning in 1958 and continuing until she retired in 1993. Even after retirement, she continued as a member serving in several leadership positions with the Atlanta Lions Club. From her entrance into the organization as the Executive Secretary of the Atlanta Lions Club in 1958, her lifelong work became focused on philanthropy in support of sight and vision conservation. She did volunteer work with the Georgia Lions Eye Bank, served on the Board of the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation and played key roles in the success of the Peach Bowl which helped fund these endeavors. Eventually she relocated to Hawaii to direct the Hawaii Lions Eye Bank and Makana Foundation in their transplant work with corneas, kidneys and human tissue. Her contributions through working with the Lions organization resulted in many blind people having their vision restored, free eye glasses distributed to people who could not afford them, and countless stories of organ transplants extending lives.

She is survived by her two children: Joyce Dixon Medina and Richard Dixon and his wife, Linda Dixon; their children Katherine Dixon Volk and her husband, Brian, and Stephen Dixon and his wife, Rhonda. She was also very proud of her four great-grandchildren: Andy & Lauren Volk and Alice & Jonah Dixon.
