Eloise Williamson Newhard

Mrs. Eloise Williamson Newhard, age 76 of Stone Mountain, Georgia died Friday, August 20, 2010.   She was born January 17, 1934 in Beaumont, Texas to Carmen Alan Williamson and Edna Joe Youngblood.  Mrs.  Newhard was a 1951 graduate of South Park High School in Beaumont, Texas. She attended the University of Maryland in Munich, Germany; Panola Junior College in Carthage, Texas; American University in Washington, DC; the University of Miami in Miami, Florida; and Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia.  She finished her Bachelor’s Degree at Georgia State University in 1971 with a major in Political Science and a minor in History.  Mrs. Newhard graduated from Emory Law School in 1977, having her own practice from 1977 to 2004 in Decatur, Georgia. She was a member of the Georgia Bar Association and the DeKalb Bar Association.  Mrs. Newhard was a member of the League of Women Voters and a long-time member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church, where she served on numerous committees, including past chairman on the Child Development Advisory Board.  She was the chair of the DeKalb YWCA in 1986. She was also a member of the Friday Night Bridge Club, an avid reader, and a Civil War buff.  Mrs. Newhard is survived by her husband of 54 years Jack Newhard; daughters, Cynthia Deakin and her husband Tom, Kathy Whitmer and her husband Bobby, all of Lilburn, GA; grandchildren, Laura, Michael and Chris Deakin, Johnathan and James Whitmer; sisters, Elaine Dodgen of Richardson, Texas, Mildred Kyle of Carthage, Texas, Carmen Cudd of Marietta, Georgia, and Ann Turner of Houston, Texas; brother, Don Williamson of Henderson, Nevada,  Funeral services will be held Friday, August 27,  2010 at 3:00 P.M. at Oak Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Louis Miller officiating.  The body will lie in state beginning at 2 P.M. Interment will follow at Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, well-wishers are asked to send contributions to Oak Grove United Methodist Church or Hospice Atlanta. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 26th from 7 until 9 P.M. in the church parlor.  A. S. Turner & Sons
