Emilie Bridges Newsom

November 24, 1930 — August 17, 2007

Annelle Newsom, died in Atlanta on August 17, 2007. She was born in Berner, GA, a small community in Monroe County, the daughter of the late Morgan and Annie Bridges.  She graduated from Tift College with a B.S. degree in Home Economics.  After college, she worked at Macon Natural Gas, and met the love of her life and future husband, Ray Newsom.  They were married in 1953 and built their home in Atlanta.  Annelle enjoyed tending her beautiful flower garden and being with her children and grandchildren.  She was a faithful member of Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church for 35 years, member of and a former president of the Friendship Sunday School Class. She and Ray made many lifelong friends through the Church.  Annelle was a devout Christian and lived her life serving God. Annelle was a devoted wife, sister, loving mother, grandmother and great- grandmother.  She is survived by her husband of 54 years:  Ray Newsom; her sister Winifred Bush (of Concord, MA); her daughter and her husband: Cheryl and Tim Fleming; her son and his wife:   David and Susan Newsom; her four grandchildren: Jennifer Fleming, Emily Fleming, Nicole Newsom and Jake Newsom, her great grandson Cody Martin and several nieces and nephews. Annelle will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends that have supported her and her family though her recent illness.  Visitation will be held at 10:00 am Monday, August 20, at Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church followed by a Memorial service at 11:00 am at the Church with Dr. David Sapp officiating. A family graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm at Forsyth City Cemetery with Rev. Charles Qualls officiating.  As expressions of sympathy, flowers are gratefully accepted, or those who desire may make donations in her memory to Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church Building Fund, 2715 Peachtree Rd.
