Emory Scott Cown
Passed away on July 28, 2017 due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. Scott was born March 8, 1943 to Ruth Singleton Cown and Emory S. Cown of Clarkston, GA. He received his undergraduate and Master’s degrees from GA State University. After graduation he worked for DeKalb County Superior Court as an adult probation officer. In 1970 he became Assistant Director of Division at the University of Delaware in the Criminal Justice Division and the Delaware Council on Crime & Justice. In 1982 Scott began a career with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and in 1987 became Staff Services Director until 2001 when he became Director of Administration for the Georgia State Patrol. After retirement, he and his wife moved to St. Simons Island, GA. While living there Scott was actively involved on several boards & committees for Glynn County. He truly enjoyed serving his community. Scott was an active member of the Rotary Club for many years and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He is survived by his wife, Ann Baskin Cown, step daughters Andrea Willson (Kim), Julie Ruth (Andy) and Amy Lollis (Dan). Grandchildren Harvey Ruth, Annie Ruth, Jack Lollis, Will Lollis, and Walker Shuey-Willson. Survived also by cousins and life-long friends that he treasured. A memorial service will be held August 26 at 4:00 pm at Oak Grove United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Alzheimer’s Association or charity of your choice.
