On the morning of February 5, 2005, Mrs. Colonel Eunice Swyers went to be with her Heavenly Father. She was 92 years of age and had served as a Salvation Army officer for almost 70 years, ministering to the needs of others. For her work with Church Women United, the title of Valiant Woman was bestowed. She also received the Outstanding Visitor Award from the Veteran's Hospitals for the long hours she spent in visitation. A service of remembrance and celebration will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 11, 2005 at The Salvation Army Corps, Service and Worship Center, 2090 N. Druid Hills Road, with a time of viewing and receiving of friends by family members from 9:00 a.m. Her husband, Colonel Gordon Swyers, preceded her in death. Those who call her blessed survive her: her four children, Commissioners Gordon and Philip Swyers, Colonel Eunice Herndon and Bandmaster John Swyers, their wives and husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, along with a host of friends.
