Dr. Ferdinand Alexi Hilenski, II, born January 1, 1947, passed away on Wednesday, July 29. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Dr. Lula Lail Hilenski, his two children, daughter, Mary Catherine Hilenski, and son, Jesse Lail Hilenski, of Atlanta, GA, and two sisters, Roda Grubb of McAllen, TX, and Phyllis Hilenski of Gainesville, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Lt. Cmdr. Ferdinand Hilenski and Louisa May Hilenski, and by his sister Lou Merrill. Dr. Hilenski obtained his Ph. D. in English from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He had been employed at Georgia Tech since 1993, first as Director of Development at the College of Architecture and then as the founding development officer at Ivan Allen College. A lifelong learner, he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in 1992 and was an Advanced Certification Fundraising Executive (ACFRE). Dr. Hilenski will be remembered as a "gentleman and a scholar" by all who knew him. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be announced at a later date.
