Flora Jeanne Payne

September 5, 1939 — September 24, 2021

Flora Jeanne (Morro) Payne, 82, passed away Friday, September 24, 2021, after suffering the effects of Covid. She loved her family and friends fiercely - with grace, humor and lack of judgement. Grandmother’s pride was in her grandchildren and great grandchildren!

She was born in Caddo County, Oklahoma, and reared in Roswell, New Mexico. She attended the University of Tulsa. While home on break, she met a Georgia fella based at Walker AFB and the rest, as they say, is history. She married Robert Jack Payne and started their family there in Roswell. This began their 62 year life together,

After having their daughter, Elizabeth Anne “Libby”, and being honorably discharged from the AF, they moved to Georgia where they had their sons - Jonathan Bradford, Brian Winston and Barry Andrew. They made their home in Lake City, Georgia for more than 58 years. During this time they bought a small “Patch” of land just outside Madison, Georgia in Apalachee. They loved days at “The Patch” with the grandkids - fishing, picking fruit, gathering pecans, vegetables from the garden and having the traditional Saturday night hot dog suppers.

Flora is a 29 year retiree from the JC Penney Company and maintains many friendships with the women she worked and raised children with.

She is preceded in death by her parents Paul R. and A. Caroline (Castillo) Morro, her brothers Louis Morro and wife Sandi, her brother Stephen P., her sister Mary Theresa.
She is also preceded in death by her husband Robert Jack and her son Jonathan Bradford.

She is blessed to be survived by her daughter Libby and her husband Robert S. Wyzykowski Jr., of Lilburn, sons Brian and Barry, both of Lake City. Her Grandchildren Robert Austin Payne-Jones and Brie Lyons (Larkin), of Boca Raton, Fl., Bradford Payne Wyzykowski, US Navy, Jordan Leigh Payne, Ellenwood, Madison Grace Payne and Devlin Jackson Payne, of Lawrenceville. Her Great-Grandchildren Georgia Larkin Payne-Jones and Scout Austin Payne-Jones. She is also survived by her brother Peter Morro of Colorado and sister Carol (Morro) and Philip Vann of Missouri as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

After cremation a Memorial will follow in both Atlanta, Ga. and Roswell, NM (to be announced). In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association are encouraged.
