Frances Lillian Flynt

Frances LillianTreadwell Flynt, 95, passed away Wednesday December 26, 2012 after a short illness. A long time resident of Decatur she was the daughter of Ewell Eugene Treadwell, Sr. and Lillian Ozmer Treadwell. Frances attended the City Schools of Decatur and graduated from Decatur Girls High in 1935. She then attended Georgia College for Women at Milledgeville, earning a teaching degree. She taught for several years in Cave Springs, Georgia before marrying Collins Moore Flynt, also of Decatur, in 1940. Frances was known for her active church life at Decatur First United Methodist Church where she was active in all facets of church life. For many years she taught the five-year-old Sunday School class and in 1956 helped start the Decatur First Methodist Kindergarten. She taught a five year old class for many years and became director in the mid 1960's where she remained in that capacity until she retired in the late 1970's. Other activities at her beloved church included serving on the Administrative Board and United Methodist Women's circle leader. Her family was very special to her and she to them. She is survived by her three daughters, Colline (Candler) Broom, Sydney (Bill) Floyd and Susan Flynt; three grandchildren Jennifer Broom, Bo (Holly) Broom and Brady Horne, three great grandchildren, her sister Anne Treadwell Suratt of Wilmington, DE and many nieces and nephews. Her greatest legacy to her family and all who knew her was her strong faith expressed in the love and kindness shown throughout her life. A memorial service will be held at the Decatur First United Methodist Chapel on January 6, 2012 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be given to the Decatur United Methodist Children's Home or the Decatur First United Methodist Church Kindergarten.
