Frank Markwalter Smith, Jr., 94, of Newnan, died November 23, 2012. Born in Greensboro, Georgia, Frank was one of the few teenagers who overcame Polio after being told he would never walk again, to serve in the military during WWII. Frank served with honor in the U. S. Army in the Africa and Italy campaigns. Returning home, he attended college, married, and began a career with Reynolds Aluminum that lasted over a quarter century, retiring as credit manager. He was preceded in death by the wife he loved for 56 years, Ruth Holcombe Smith, and is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Bob Burdett of Newnan; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Kathy Smith of Fairfax VA; grandchildren, Summer, Holly, Bobby, Caleb, Jenna, Micah, Autumn, Bonnie and Adam; great grandchildren, Abigail, Mikaela and Meghan; sister, Mary Puckett of Greenville SC; brother, Harold Smith of Tucker; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Frank Smith will be 11 AM, Tuesday, November 27, in the chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons, with Rev. Carl Greene officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Decatur Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
