Frieda Bader Joiner

July 25, 1927 — March 25, 2012

Frieda Bader Joiner, 84, died peacefully at Hospice Atlanta on Sunday, March 25th. A memorial service will be held at Living Grace Lutheran Church, 1812 Cooledge Rd. Tucker, GA 30084, at 11am on Tuesday, April 3rd. The family invites everyone to a visitation and celebration of Frieda's life at A.S. Turner & Sons, 2773 North Decatur Rd. Decatur, GA 30033, from 6-8pm on Monday, April 2nd. Interment, 2:30 p.m. at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton. Frieda was born July 25, 1927 in Wiedergeltingen, Germany to Peter and Anna Bader and was raised in Augsburg, Germany. Following World War II, she immigrated to the United States and became a U.S. citizen. Fluent in German, French, and English, Frieda had a successful career as a translator and executive assistant in Davenport, Iowa and Flushing, New York before moving to Atlanta, Georgia in the late 1950's. It was in Atlanta that she met and fell in love with Tom Joiner, who she married on December 5, 1959. The couple settled in the Tucker area to raise three wonderful sons, Desmond, David, and Carlton. Frieda was also the loving grandmother to six grandchildren. Frieda's greatest legacy is that of devoted mother and wife. Simply put, her family was her life, and the impact she made on the lives of those she touched will last generations. Her loves and passions included traveling, playing tennis, coaching and attending her sons' and grandsons' soccer games, participating in the local Garden Club, and serving her beloved St. Matthew and Living Grace Lutheran churches. Not a week went by without her attending the early morning service at Living Grace Lutheran Church. Likewise, fans and players of Henderson High School soccer still fondly remember Frieda cheering on the Cougars to victory. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Tom Joiner; her children: Desmond and Mimi Joiner of Fairhope, Alabama; David and Aida Joiner of Roswell, Georgia; and Carlton and Lee Joiner of Smyrna, Georgia; her grandchildren: Reese, Donovan, and India Joiner of Fairhope, Alabama; Collin and Ryan Joiner of Roswell, Georgia; and Avery Joiner of Smyrna, Georgia; her sister Martha Armbruster of Augsburg, Germany; her brother Adolf and Maria Bader of Augsburg, Germany; and her sister Kathi and Willy Heinz of Augsburg, Germany. Pall-bearers for the memorial service will be Desmond Joiner, David Joiner, Carlton Joiner, Collin Joiner, Reese Joiner, Ryan Joiner, Eric Joiner, Barry Deloache, and George Hood. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Living Grace Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer's Association of Georgia. A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory
