Gene T. Holloway

Gene T. Holloway passed away December 12th from complications of a stroke that he suffered several weeks ago. Mr. Holloway, a native of Atlanta, was born July 26, 1928.  He was the son of the late Paul Holloway and Juanita Holloway Mullins, also of Atlanta.  Gene and his wife Louise had just celebrated their 61st anniversary in September.  Growing up in Grant Park, he attended Tech High School.  After serving in the army, he then attended Georgia Tech.    In 1947, while still in school, he began working for Steel, Inc. in Scottsdale, Georgia.  He was named president of Steel Inc. in 1963. With partners, Jim Newton, Dan Williams and Skip Burdett, he purchased Steel, Inc. in 1983 serving as President until his retirement in 2001.  During his career with Steel, Inc, he was involved with many projects including the Omni, World Congress Center, Atlanta airport, Lenox Square, and Bobby Dodd Stadium, just to name a few.  Gene’s favorite activities were golf and travel.  He was one of the longest active members of the Atlanta Athletic Club, joining the club in 1957 when it was East Lake Country Club.   In addition to his wife Louise, he is survived by his daughter Lisa George, son-in-law Keith George, two grandchildren Christopher and Courtney George all of Atlanta, and nephews Steven and Gary Holloway.  The funeral will be held Monday December 14at 1:00 pm at A S Turners in Decatur.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
