George was born September 29, 1924 in Little Five Points, which he considered his Garden of Eden, and grew up with his mother (Edith Taylor Castleberry), 3 older sisters (Bernice Wadsworth, Doris Hemrick, and Mildred Castleberry), and first cousin Vivian Barnes. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson School of Law and was a member of Sigma Delta Kappa. After graduation George served in World War ll in the 5th Air Corps in the South Pacific. He then worked at the Veterans Administration Regional Office in Atlanta as a Benefits Counselor. He retired after 36 ½ years of faithful service, during which he received many Suggestion and Outstanding Performance awards.

George loved the Lord with all of his heart and was an active member of the Clairmont Presbyterian Church where he served both as an Elder and a Deacon. He was at the church several days a week as a volunteer and as a part time employee until the week before his death.

He loved to read, watch movies, and play games with his friends at Clairmont Crest. George’s birthday celebrations could last as long as 2 weeks due to all the cards, gifts, and outings by his many friends and family. He loved to give $2 bills for special occasions to his young great nieces and nephews, as well as all the children at Clairmont Presbyterian. George touched the hearts and souls of everyone he met by his faith, love, and service for others. He was gentle, a compassionate listener, and had a great sense of humor. His life was a constant inspiration for all of us, and we will miss him dearly.
