SHEALY, Gerrill Margaret Kohn
Gerrill Kohn Shealy was born July 29, 1921 in Oak Park, Illinois and died December 8, 2009. She moved to Avondale Estates with her family in 1932, attended Winona Park Elementary School and graduated from Decatur Girl’s High in 1938. She married James Owen Shealy of Decatur in 1942 and they enjoyed forty years of life together until his death in 1983. Gerrill was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer since 1932 where she taught the three year old Sunday school class for over thirty years. Her devotion to and leadership in the Avondale Estates Garden Club, DeKalb Federation of Garden Clubs and Avondale Estates Community organizations gave her the greatest pride and joy. She was an outstanding citizen of her beloved Avondale Estates. Gerrill was preceded in death by parents, Gerard and Sophie Kohn; sister Marilyn Kohn Shaver; husband James Owen Shealy, Sr. and son James Owen Shealy, Jr. She is survived by daughter, Peggy Forsberg and her husband Ed; five grandchildren and their spouses; three great-grand sons and nieces and nephews. The Funeral service for Gerrill will be Friday, December 11, 2009 at 11 o’clock A. M. at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, interment will follow at Decatur Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5 till 8 P. M. at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, Decatur. 404-292-1551
