Haskin Richard Pounds

Haskin Richard Pounds of Tucker passed away March 6,2007, at his home. He was born on July 9, 1933, in Augusta, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Pounds and Ruby Wood, and his daughter, Roxanne Pounds Wallace. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Linda Howard Pounds; and his devoted son, Earen Wallace Pounds; and grandson, Manu Pilayo. Hack received his B.S. degree from Henderson State College, his M.Ed. and Ed.D. from the University of Arkansas. He spent his entire career in the field of education, beginning as a classroom teacher, school Principal, Superintendent of Schools in Arkansas and serving on the State School Board in Arkansas. After moving to Georgia in 1965, he joined the faculty at the University of Georgia. In 1967 he began as the Director of Teacher Education Development for the University System of Georgia, and retired in 1996 as Vice Chancellor for Research and Planning for the Board of Regents, University System of Georgia. During his career, he was the author of numerous publications in the field of Education. He was a member of several Education Associations and Civic organizations, including Lions International and the Rotary Club. He served in the U.S. Army and Active Reserve, attaining the rank of Major. Visitation will be held at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur on Thursday, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. There will be visitation at Fox & Weeks Funeral Home, on Hodgson Memorial Drive in Savannah, on Friday, from 5:30 p.m. unti1 7:30 p.m. The funeral will be graveside at Bonaventure Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 10. The Rev. Gavin Dunbar will officiate.
