Holcombe T. Marshall, also known as H. T., died Thursday, May 10, 2012. He was born in Putnam County Georgia, on May 6, 1917. He graduated from Eatonton High School in 1934, attended Mercer University, from which he graduated, summa cum laude, in 1938; and then taught in high schools for three years. Drafted in 1942, H. T. completed Airplane Mechanics School at Keesler Field, Mississippi, Aviation Engineering School at Chanute Field, Illinois, and Officer's Training School at Miami Beach, Florida. He was sent to the South Pacific and served about 4 years with squadrons in the 5th Bomb Group of the 13th Air Force as ground engineering officer of squadron of B-24 airplanes, attaining the rank of captain. H. T. married Margaret Clark of Dawson, Ga. in 1943. Margaret died on August 6, 2006. Their only son, Tucker, died in 2003. After the war, H. T. attended the GAB School of Commerce in Macon for two years, and then took a position with a public accounting firm in Atlanta. He became a C. P. A. in 1952. In the meantime, he attended the Atlanta Law School at night and graduated as valedictorian of his class. He passed the bar examination but never practiced law. After a public accounting career of 17 years, H. T. accepted a position at Georgia Tech in 1967. He remained there over 30 years. He organized the department of internal auditing and served as its director until he retired in 1967. As an avid runner, H. T. ran in 21 Peachtree Road Races competed in three marathons, and recorded a total of 33, 893 miles. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, May 14, 2012 at the Decatur First Baptist Church Chapel with Rev. Julie Pennington-Russell officiating.
