Homer Dean Minor

Homer Dean Minor of Decatur, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at the age of 94. Born on October 8, 1918, Dean grew up in Glennville, Georgia. He graduated from Oxford College and Emory University. He taught at Brookhaven High School where he met and married Louise King. A proud veteran, Mr. Minor enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country in World War II. He later joined the Army Reserve and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. After his return from World War II, he graduated from John Marshall School of Law. He began his career at the Veterans Administration in the Department of Veteran Affairs and was appointed by the President of the United States and served as General Counsel for 32 years. Dean and Louise were happily married until her death in 1979. After Louise passed, he married Constance Loucks. He was an active member of Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church and the Jake Ward Class. He was a member of the DeKalb Kiwanis Club, Military Order of the World Wars, and actively volunteered in the Department of Alumni of Oxford College and Emory University. He received the Jake Ward Golden Heart Award for his dedication and support of Emory University. As Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 18, he earned the Silver Beaver Award. Dean was known for his sense of humor, love of his family, his country and animals. He was loved by many family, friends and neighbors and will be dearly missed. Homer is survived by his adoring daughter, Lucretia, his faithful son, Stephen and loving granddaughter Emily, niece, Rhoda McCabe and nephews, Lowry Stanford, Henry King Stanford Jr., Peyton Stanford, Clifton Minor, Glen Minor and Edward Minor. He is also survived by step-son Guy Loucks, step-daughter Jeannie Allen, step-granddaughter Samantha Loucks and step-grandson Guy Loucks Jr. A reception celebrating a life well lived and loved will follow at Houston Mill House at 3:30 pm.
