Violinist Homer Holloway, 79, died December 19, 2014 of heart failure. Born and raised in Atlanta, he attended Murphy High School and went on to graduate from the University of Georgia, then earned his Master's Degree and Performer's Certificate from the Eastman School of Music. He met his wife, Doris, while playing in the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, where she was a violist. They were married for 55 years, until Doris lost her life to cancer in 2013. Known to his friends as "Dick," he toured Europe as concertmaster and soloist of the 7th Army Symphony Orchestra, then went on to become a professor of music at Georgia State University, where he taught until retirement. A student of Ivan Galamian and Jascha Heifetz, Dick loved teaching and performing and continued to play the violin regularly until the end of his life. He is survived by his children, Lenora and Richard, and 4 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 27, at 2 pm in the chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons. The family will receive friends on Friday from 7-9 pm at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home.
