James Edward Tebbel

Dr. James Edward "Jim" Tebbel, 89, of Atlanta and originally from Pontiac, Michigan, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2008.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne Motsinger Tebbel and is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Diane Tebbel; grandchildren, Catie and Eric Tebbel; brother, George I. Tebbel; and sister, Leone LaRose.  Dr. Tebbel served as a B-17 bomber pilot and officer in the U. S Army Air Corps during World War II and flew bombing missions over Germany.  He suffered a broken back in a place crash in 1944, but after recovery, returned to flying status for six more years.  In addition to 3 Air Medals, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for one harrowing mission where, despite his aircraft being badly hit by flak and in flames, he maintained command of the flight, completed the bombing run, and safely landed the damaged plane.  Following his Air Force service, he enrolled in Palmer Chiropractic College.  Upon graduation he relocated to Atlanta and practiced the healing art of chiropractic for the next 40 years.  The service will be held Wednesday, May 21st, at 11 am, at Sunrise Chapel at Arlington Memorial Park with Rev. Joy Ledoux officiating. Entombment will follow with full military honors.  The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Tuesday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
