James William "Jim" Mitchell, 86, of Atlanta, died February 11, 2012. Born and raised in Rutledge, Mr. Mitchell served his country in the U. S. Navy during WWII in the South Pacific Theater; he was a long time member and officer of the World War II Roundtable in Atlanta. He attended the University of Georgia, Atlanta Division, and was an avid Bulldog fan. He was a member of Briarcliff United Methodist Church. Mr. Mitchell was a retired quality control manager for Gulf Oil Corp, where he worked for 45 years. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Moncele Woodruff Mitchell; parents, Charles and Roberta Mitchell; sister, Mildred Workman and son-in-law, Sandy Crawford. Mr. Mitchell is survived by his daughter, Joan M. Crawford; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Marla Mitchell; grandchildren, Monica and Wes Mitchell, and Kendal, Korleigh, and Kasey Crawford; great grandchild, Nash Ivey and niece, Carolyn Westbrook. The funeral service will be at 2:00 Wednesday, 2/12, at Briarcliff UMC with Rev Lisa Derrick officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Floral Hills.
